The <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/rebornfx-dark-hair-detail" target="_blank"><strong>Rebornfx</strong> <strong>Dark Hair</strong></a> color is a nice warm black color. When thinned out it has a very dark brown color hue. When white is added in it shows a warm baby brown instead of a blue grey color that most blacks give. This makes it nice for painting baby hair and adding in highlights. </div>

The <strong><a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/rebornfx-white-wash-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx Transparent White Wash</a> </strong>paint is different from the Rebornfx White. The white in the White Wash paint is transparent (see through) and does not leave a chalky residue. One use of it is to lighten the value of vinyl to match another lighter value before neutralizing it. Demo pictured below; </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrisia0Lqj2K3pMglz8K5zUP0fIvawyZkjOEXT0KOCjh4mRaz2A3DLOkQd9aBM97reeeU_ydqLuTXHWr7byNVXh_ysuDjkfAbGlNjpcOsDIUAx286CO8pRk0hTbm7yQdwCeDkZ1Hy98FjQ/s1600/20180723_132400.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1286" data-original-width="1600" height="257" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrisia0Lqj2K3pMglz8K5zUP0fIvawyZkjOEXT0KOCjh4mRaz2A3DLOkQd9aBM97reeeU_ydqLuTXHWr7byNVXh_ysuDjkfAbGlNjpcOsDIUAx286CO8pRk0hTbm7yQdwCeDkZ1Hy98FjQ/s320/20180723_132400.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Here pictured above are samples of 2 arms that I want to use on same doll. As you can see they are not only different colors but the left one is lighter in tone/value and the one on the right is a darker tone/value. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzfrskkTwfsJDy-OhzN4u-HToMW2pCkstRtPcdCiTbsWLKyCBkFyOXs-oznqtLggUpaInJwFESyzrYDEndyCm8Tfs1O_KnGMidp3SsFFCoyKHDMUJDzHWJShQ9qMBe_sf76Kail8TitrPf/s1600/whiteWash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1430" data-original-width="1600" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzfrskkTwfsJDy-OhzN4u-HToMW2pCkstRtPcdCiTbsWLKyCBkFyOXs-oznqtLggUpaInJwFESyzrYDEndyCm8Tfs1O_KnGMidp3SsFFCoyKHDMUJDzHWJShQ9qMBe_sf76Kail8TitrPf/s320/whiteWash.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The picture above is after I have applied 2 layers of the Transparent White Wash to the right arm. You can see it is now lighter and of same value as the left one. They are still not the same color hue but by lightening the right arm the neutralizing process will now be a lot easier to accomplish. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have also used the Rebornfx Transparent White Wash to lighten the paint a bit on a biracial skin doll I had gotten a bit too dark in the beginning. After applying the white wash I then added a lighter tone of the dark flesh I was using and it turned out much nicer. Sorry didn't take pics of that process at that time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/rebornfx-light-ochre-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx Light Ochre</a> paint I found works very nice as a wash over the nose bridge area and adds some nice transparent yellow undertones on other areas of the skin.</div>

Since the mini blog information sheet on Neutralizing/Color Correction below was written, I developed a color correction paint set to go with the tutorial. The paint set has all 6 of the Rebornfx paint colors needed in half once sized bottles. It also contains a printed edited version of the information below for easy reference. <br />
This is the paint set kit that can be purchased at; <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-sets">https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-sets</a><br />

<h3>
Neutralizing or Color Correcting your Reborn Doll Information</h3>
<br />
If you have been reborning for a number of years you will have come across the terminology of "neutralizing" your vinyl dolls. Some years back the vinyl doll kits varied from a dark bubble gum pink to a orange or dirty yellow color. This is when the neutralizing methods began in reborning. In order to get rid of those awful colors so our transparent flesh paint layering didn't take on those undertone hues ,one had to neutralize that vinyl color first. Thankfully today most of the vinyl in our doll kits are closer to a more natural skin color. So neutralizing a vinyl before painting it is now a choice. However you may need to use the neutralizing method for other reasons.......<br />
<br />
Today I ran into a situation that required me to use the neutralizing method. My kit had an arm missing so I was able to get a replacement. The problem was my kit was about 2 years old so when the replacement limb came it was made from a newer batch of vinyl. The newer limb shown on the left had more yellow in the die lot color than the older parts did on the doll. In this situation neutralizing the full kit is necessary. If I choose not to neutralize then I would be "fighting" with the yellow hue when painting in an attempt to make it match the other limbs. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBC-_veobpD0D7QfzFbSXnKRJcAFzDBFFdRGpmMQ0TOFtEZg57G4UU2yR99yXE8WR5osSYm9nXz-DLZO2RIkfiv3wukNu6rmchYnY2irNtTVNBkYgwYoo212fSRGgWprmtruG_emQsKqGc/s1600/_DSC6406.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="400" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBC-_veobpD0D7QfzFbSXnKRJcAFzDBFFdRGpmMQ0TOFtEZg57G4UU2yR99yXE8WR5osSYm9nXz-DLZO2RIkfiv3wukNu6rmchYnY2irNtTVNBkYgwYoo212fSRGgWprmtruG_emQsKqGc/s320/_DSC6406.JPG" width="256" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So here is what has to be done to neutralize the vinyl color and make all parts match;</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The basics of neutralizing is to apply a paint color that is opposite to the vinyl color. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To help you with that a <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/reborn-tools-supplies/tools/paint-mix-color-wheel-detail?lang=en-GB" target="_blank">color wheel</a> is a very good tool to use. You will see that I have matched up the opposite colors for different colored vinyl below to give you an idea how to do this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsX22ICaExOBuHwF3FQuhB7SAAZsy5iDfX3PUIzpCidpVlT3t0xs7GhU0ysWX-RD_jqwZ1LrnUEqFBbpJCP1GePof6WjjrkzzUZ2o7xJfTbopjucelDJ8_VP3Pbdzg3dxA2i-EKELpznja/s1600/_DSC6403.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="400" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsX22ICaExOBuHwF3FQuhB7SAAZsy5iDfX3PUIzpCidpVlT3t0xs7GhU0ysWX-RD_jqwZ1LrnUEqFBbpJCP1GePof6WjjrkzzUZ2o7xJfTbopjucelDJ8_VP3Pbdzg3dxA2i-EKELpznja/s320/_DSC6403.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Shown above is a (cool toned) pink vinyl and when compared onto the color wheel you will see the opposite color is green. So for this type of vinyl I would apply a transparent layer of <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/results,1-150" target="_blank">Rebornfx Mint Green Wash acrylic paint.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUvLQPUdsBRTxYyIGps4bsPpfRKgQrkarl6oQSYzzuwuUZNilfylY6jw2AT5T0PPgf4NSUI6ztbVqzJxrv5KGsvv4B86uUyIlcOaeFJB9brArLLbYJvJ6tOfBQI7PxbEou_DsazQDQXmtV/s1600/_DSC6405.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="400" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUvLQPUdsBRTxYyIGps4bsPpfRKgQrkarl6oQSYzzuwuUZNilfylY6jw2AT5T0PPgf4NSUI6ztbVqzJxrv5KGsvv4B86uUyIlcOaeFJB9brArLLbYJvJ6tOfBQI7PxbEou_DsazQDQXmtV/s320/_DSC6405.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Shown above is a yellow toned vinyl piece and when compared onto the color wheel you will see the opposite color is purple. So for this vinyl I would apply a transparent layer of <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/reborn-fx-air-violet-wash-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx Violet Wash acrylic paint.</a> </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2woczN6S00SU3W8SLw-hZfNspB7FHpAbt2FCM59eWmWPn_1vTqCo1WyGRnl3yiDXOYJG7KwMDMNyfjlf5GHs57wKhDpwTfei6CRA2U4EPKpQwkgeuqbRxnd9M1UtQLxlLyxAIJODgcAhm/s1600/_DSC6404.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="400" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2woczN6S00SU3W8SLw-hZfNspB7FHpAbt2FCM59eWmWPn_1vTqCo1WyGRnl3yiDXOYJG7KwMDMNyfjlf5GHs57wKhDpwTfei6CRA2U4EPKpQwkgeuqbRxnd9M1UtQLxlLyxAIJODgcAhm/s320/_DSC6404.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
In this picture above the vinyl has an orange tone to it, so the opposite color on the color wheel here is blue. I would apply a transparent layer of <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/reborn-fx-air-baby-blue-wash-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx Pale Blue</a> Wash acrylic paint on top of this vinyl. If the vinyl orange has a bit of a yellow hue to it then the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/reborn-fx-air-bluebell-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx Bluebell wash</a> is good to use for that color. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPRLjY6N8SyNpEGyej5NOBOA4j1BuS7_qhzcSWabmU0Fz8-2kNSDnJqgIeduo7rmO-m0OrJSDN91Tyo3oN9XNV1VQz6dETj14LAhF6k3N4fAmTJQhyLV8-2YD-6RctABaD5bCfdeFslox0/s1600/_DSC6402.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="376" data-original-width="470" height="256" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPRLjY6N8SyNpEGyej5NOBOA4j1BuS7_qhzcSWabmU0Fz8-2kNSDnJqgIeduo7rmO-m0OrJSDN91Tyo3oN9XNV1VQz6dETj14LAhF6k3N4fAmTJQhyLV8-2YD-6RctABaD5bCfdeFslox0/s320/_DSC6402.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the picture above you can see the different colored vinyl pieces and the paint colors that I would use to neutralize the vinyl color.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong>Now lets see what happens when you apply a neutralizing color onto your vinyl.....</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong></strong> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkhN9Lh9_EgT7SDp-0d8RA_ZjYbP2-o93_wxucOhpTIlYWDMBFDCTRSku3ocXdjLXCaVMTKmowjWO_8Ws0lJLkeUdhme0Z75GLH50hBApazxwaRQQ-Ej0QWtY6AjTUpqnAUC0SG7IuSOMe/s1600/_DSC6416.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="386" data-original-width="309" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkhN9Lh9_EgT7SDp-0d8RA_ZjYbP2-o93_wxucOhpTIlYWDMBFDCTRSku3ocXdjLXCaVMTKmowjWO_8Ws0lJLkeUdhme0Z75GLH50hBApazxwaRQQ-Ej0QWtY6AjTUpqnAUC0SG7IuSOMe/s400/_DSC6416.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong>TAH-DAH!</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<strong></strong> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The original color of the vinyl is shown at the very bottom of the belly plates. Then you will see I left a line of the neutralizing paint color I used as it's first layer. (Violet<em> on the left yellow toned vinyl and then mint green on the pink toned vinyl)</em> On top of the neutralizing color I applied a coat of Flesh color to show your the results. Both pieces end up looking alike even though they started off with different colored vinyl. This is the method that I will now use on my doll kit arm to make them match. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another way you can use washes is to correct a painted doll that end up to grey/blue tone. Do this by applying a layer of the Rebornfx Warm Wash all over the areas you want to change the color. If you don't' like the pink tone of your babies skin and would like to change it to a more peach tone then you can add a layer of the Rebornfx Light Ochre Wash over top. These color corrector paints are included in the Rebornfx Color Correction Paint set sold at <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-sets">https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-sets</a><strong></strong></div>

I've gotten behind in my blogging as life rushes on....<br />
Thought I'd better update this blog on the newer products that have been developed in the Rebornfx line that I have been having fun testing out.<br />
First off Rebornfx has come out with their <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums/rebornfx-ultra-matte-varnish-detail" target="_blank">Ultra Matte Varnish</a>. Now this stuff is " awesome"<br />
It leaves an ultra matte finish with no shine AND it also leaves a really silky feel to it. I love it! A little does go a long way. I did a 20" reborn and you could hardly see I used any out of the 4 oz. jar.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkMqlb3kI7DJtDPOUiSDjxvyrEMvG4raiZQYH35Mqw6z_V_MHbVEdj48Kc-ZmCA-LLywkbmqlO-l20zAeyxQ6btu6XIxv6VpcWvWOQfHYM3wrNkcoQtSW1X5nLlnQbZ0mLUawPcFmCWKlb/s1600/UltraMatVarn.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="907" data-original-width="1040" height="279" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkMqlb3kI7DJtDPOUiSDjxvyrEMvG4raiZQYH35Mqw6z_V_MHbVEdj48Kc-ZmCA-LLywkbmqlO-l20zAeyxQ6btu6XIxv6VpcWvWOQfHYM3wrNkcoQtSW1X5nLlnQbZ0mLUawPcFmCWKlb/s320/UltraMatVarn.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
You do have to ensure you stir the stuff before using as the matting agents do sink to the bottom of the jar when it sits for a while. Easy to apply, just add it to your dense cosmetic sponge and lightly pounce(hard pouncing may leave bubbles) onto your finished reborn doll. It goes over air dry acrylics and heatset paints. Ensure your paints are fully dried/cured before applying. Paint that is still wet underneath can cause the varnishes to go cloudy. Let air dry for at least 24 to 48 hours for full protection. Here is a sample picture of what my reborn painted vinyl looked like on the right and then I added on one coat of the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums/rebornfx-ultra-matte-varnish-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx Ultra Matte Varnish</a> on the left side. <br />

On the left I have added in <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums/rebornfx-matting-powder-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx Matting powder</a> into Liquitex brand acrylic paint shown on the right. You can see how nicely it matts down the shine from that paint when added. You can see how I add the Rebornfx Matting powder into the paints on my you tube : <a href="https://youtu.be/-4Yvv55YP30" target="_blank">https://youtu.be/-4Yvv55YP30</a><br />
You do have to be mindful to mix according to directions and not to add to much. Adding to much can affect the binding properties of your paint or if not mixed well it may leave powder dots. I think this product has great advantages for using with acrylic paints in reborning. <br />
<br />
Now I'm off to painting my Reborn Dolls = only 33 more days until Christmas! <br />

This will help reborners who have used or are still using the discontinued Babyfx paints to still have some of their favorite colors available in another air dry paint brand. This also eliminates the hassle and time consuming task of mixing your own paint colors. Here is a list of the new paint colors that are now available at <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/results,16-15" target="_blank">MacPherson Arts & Crafts</a></span><br />

<span style="background-color: white; color: #1d2129; display: inline; float: none; font-family: "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;">Thin skin color works well on toning down red and can be used as a neutralizer for pink vinyl. If your skin tones end up to light for your liking, the Sun Kissed paint is great to slightly darken down your skin tones. These colors are great for adding a mottled skin tone as well. I can imagine that there are many uses for these new Rebornfx colors! </span><br />

The first kit that has been completed and is currently up for sale on the website is the Calligraphy Hair Painting Kit. This kit includes the instructions and all the tools including a 3D medium sample. needed neatly packed into a plastic carrying case. All you need to do is add the paint colors you want to use for your hair. Personally I really like the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints" target="_blank">ReBornFX Ash Brown</a> paint color<br />

It has interested me to the point that now I have officially put it onto my bucket list to try. The new <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-other-products/rebornfx-spray-sealer-detail" target="_blank">Reborn FX Spray Sealer</a> was created for use with the pigment powders and pastels (<em>thanks to one of our clients who came up with this idea for us</em>). The Rebornfx Spray Sealer seals in the powders with it's great adhesion and has a UV light protectant in it to minimize color fading. I had an interesting conversation with a customer at the IDTS show on how she was going to try a mixture of our <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-other-products/rebornfx-spray-sealer-detail" target="_blank">Reborn FX Sealer</a>, Diluent and paints to put into her airbrush machine for application. This really took my interest so I am hoping to hear back from her on this intriguing method of painting reborns. <br />

These paints are fun and I can see many uses for them on the reborn dolls. Yes they would be great for fantasy dolls but look at what they can do to liven up the more realistic reborns! <br />
The Rebornfx Blue Reflective paint is awesome for applying to thin skin areas such as in the ears, temples, eyelids, bottom of feet and palm areas. The Rebornfx Reflective paints do not "sparkle". They reflect a color when a light hits them in a certain way. <br />
Here is a picture of an ear that I had painted with the Rebornfx Blue Reflective paint.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
The light is shining on the inner ridge of the ear, reflecting the blue hue of the paint. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Quf8-AafbcTz9lrPzYBwJMEt-0Juye64aa9jHJiSUf3M2nESoP3sTjscjPF1l3nSc_1sDSmQm75Gq02YFLEZZ8DgCSH3H-uWiFYG5-WPgpSt5aNx_dymbt3rt23SZEqPjdAme9HGkf1y/s1600/RefleciveBlueEar2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="633" data-original-width="413" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Quf8-AafbcTz9lrPzYBwJMEt-0Juye64aa9jHJiSUf3M2nESoP3sTjscjPF1l3nSc_1sDSmQm75Gq02YFLEZZ8DgCSH3H-uWiFYG5-WPgpSt5aNx_dymbt3rt23SZEqPjdAme9HGkf1y/s320/RefleciveBlueEar2.jpg" width="208" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I applied 1 layer of undiluted Rebornfx Blue Reflective paint onto that area and found it to be perfect for the result I wanted. If the color is not strong enough for your preference then a second (or more) layer can be applied to enhance the reflective color. If you want the reflective color to be very subtle then mix in a bit of Rebornfx Diluent or Emulsion before applying. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In the next picture below the light is not shining onto that area so there is no reflected blue color seen.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is the same ear as pictured above. Photo was taken at a different angle away from light source.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The paint may appear a bit shiny in these pictures but it is not. I applied a satin varnish on the inner ear to make it look "dewy" but you can also apply a matting agent on top of the paint and the color reflection will still occur.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As for the ReBornfx Peach and Gold Reflective paints, they are great for applying under a thin mottled layer of skin color. It illuminates the skin color creating more realism. The Rebornfx Peach reflective paint is good for fair skin tones and the Rebornfx Gold reflective paint is good to use with the darker or warmer skin tones.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am impressed with the results and versatility of these RefornFX Reflective air dry paint colors. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And oh yes I should remind you that they can be used overtop or under heat set paints. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am indeed having fun experimenting with these paints on my reborn life like dolls. Would love to see what they can do on fairies or fantasy dolls as well. </div>

Well it's been a while since I posted here, but boy have we been busy! Basically most of the time was spent preparing and packing to attend the IDTS show in Asheville North Carolina. The show was excellent and the Rebornfx paints proved to be a great success. I did a lot of painting demonstrations and answered many questions on the product. To my surprise I also got a lot of excellent feed back and great tips on how some of the products are being used by other artists. Here are a few of them I would like to share with you;<br />
<br />
1) The Rebornfx paints are now being used on resin ,heat set clays and porcelains. Although I have not tried the paints out on these different surfaces (yet), their claim is that the adhesion, blending properties and color selection of the paints are excellent. Rebornfx paints worked well with the artist's method of painting on these other types of surfaces. The sculptors are happy with it as the paint doesn't need to be heat set and therefore their precious sculpts do not have to be put back into the ovens to dry paint.<br />
<br />
2) The Rebornfx paint remover (more description on product in previous post) is now being recommended to clean off the Spanish vinyl babies before painting. It was very successful in getting rid of the vinyl residue that seems to be causing some paint lifting with the heat set and air dry paints. Once this method of cleaning is done you will notice the vinyl is "squeaky" clean and you can feel a slight tooth (not rough) to the vinyl. This will now allow the paints to adhere better. I love the Spanish vinyl for reborns as it is very soft and flexible. So I was very happy to hear this excellent tip. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRgfs24BmXp8EIYv9rqJvpyyNf9mX5lPJSlU-sVT9K5MKrEAEchyphenhyphenNjUGyJ5m9c6MG3sz8K4yHN1C2b0_0iwWG1OF5Q3EF524-MakSAGGuasTPqHaa4tlTl7KCSByVLxYKX4lwrQlRTMPTK/s1600/spanish+vinyl+wash.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1172" data-original-width="702" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRgfs24BmXp8EIYv9rqJvpyyNf9mX5lPJSlU-sVT9K5MKrEAEchyphenhyphenNjUGyJ5m9c6MG3sz8K4yHN1C2b0_0iwWG1OF5Q3EF524-MakSAGGuasTPqHaa4tlTl7KCSByVLxYKX4lwrQlRTMPTK/s200/spanish+vinyl+wash.jpg" width="119" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ4DbaWF4AGfHCikBcRSp83L190BKXpQAcdR6K_6LCWjGO9TERFfXLJGln-xotSdK3m3KYZCS_LepkKXwI7j3q-fcfFEDPOxWFF_3VcZXHBdWnxwVHGxcPWayKlnfmBFKRKOq3ocN1QyhV/s1600/remover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="841" data-original-width="439" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ4DbaWF4AGfHCikBcRSp83L190BKXpQAcdR6K_6LCWjGO9TERFfXLJGln-xotSdK3m3KYZCS_LepkKXwI7j3q-fcfFEDPOxWFF_3VcZXHBdWnxwVHGxcPWayKlnfmBFKRKOq3ocN1QyhV/s200/remover.jpg" width="103" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
The paint remover is applied with a cloth , gently rubbing in the remover onto the Spanish vinyl. No need to wait the recommended 15 minutes ( required for stripping paint off) , just a minute or two will do for this cleaning process. Rinse with water then do a wash with Dawn Soap and water. I also used a soft bristle toothbrush to clean between the toes, fingers and other creases. <br />

We have some great new products that we introduced at the IDTS show this year. I will be posting about them shortly. In the meantime if you would like to take a peek at what the Reborn FX booth display looked like; Angie from Lil Dumplins Nursery did a Youtube and caught us in action at <a href="https://youtu.be/xOSCGa2GmHU?t=6m47s" target="_blank">IDTS</a> June 2017. <br />

I am sure many of you have experienced this dilemma as well. Sometimes the only recourse is to strip off all the paint and just start over. Most of the paint strippers used for reborn dolls are very toxic eg. Acetone and WNB cleaner. This creates quite a problem for me as I live in a rural area with a septic tank and weeping bed = so no toxins can go down the drain in my house. I do like to help preserve our environment as much as I can and I do not like to handle toxins in fear of it absorbing into my sensitive skin and causing health issues. I was so happy to find out the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-other-products/rebornfx-paint-remover-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx Paint Remover</a> was both non toxic and environmentally safe. I was able to use the product with out using rubber gloves and a mask! It does have a orange/lemon odor but that did not bother me. I tried the product on the Rebornfx air dry paints , on the Genesis and Heat Set paints and it did remove both types of paint. <br />
I am going to post the instructions below on how I used the Rebornfx paint remover. The product also includes a Scrubbie wedge to help remove stubborn areas of paint with out scratching the vinyl.<br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have to admit, I've been slacking off on blogging lately as I have been enjoying time with my new grandchild born on May 17th. So I will take a few minutes today to try and catch up....</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are now 1 ounce bottles of <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints" target="_blank"><strong>air dry Reborn FX colors</strong></a> available for Hair painting;</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is my recommendation for painting the following hair types;</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u><strong>Blonde Hair</strong></u> ; Rebornfx air dry paints; Harvest Cream, Blonde, Dark Blonde</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u><strong>Brunette Hair</strong></u> ; Rebornfx air dry paints; Light Burnt Umber, Burnt Umber, Dark Burnt Umber</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u><strong>Ash Brown Hair</strong></u> ; Rebornfx air dry paints; Light Ash Brown, Ash Brown, Dark Ash Brown</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u><strong>Red Tone Hair</strong></u>: Rebornfx air dry paints; Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber - Warm Creases also makes nice red tone highlights.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Remember you can use RebornFx Air dry paints on top of Heat set paints. Apply <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums/reborn-fx-air-primer-1-detail" target="_blank"><strong>RebornFx primer</strong></a> first and finish off with your favorite sealer or varnish in heat set or air dry. </div>

One of the challenges I have had in the past was to get my painted lines thin, being able to control the paint , to go where I wanted it to go and not where it happened to land! If you have attempted painting hair on a vinyl doll head you will probably recognize my challenges with this. Some paints tend to resist the surface causing sparsely painted areas or paint blobs happening and this can be very frustrating. Another past challenge was thinning the paints to the right consistency to prevent the paints from running and containing the color strength I wanted. Well I have to say I have finally got a method of painting hair with out having these challenges and I am now really enjoying the painted hair process. I still need to practice my patterning but at least I can now have more control over the paint application with out becoming to frustrated. <br />
Here is now my hair painting method that works great for me........<br />
<br />
Ok, so the first thing I will tell you is that I am going to use a calligraphy nib to paint with and I (of coarse) I will be using the Reborn FX paints. I can just hear some of the Reborners scream " No no no!!! you will scratch that babies head with it!" but the truth is, with the special soft nibs I use (from <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/" target="_blank">MacPherson Arts and Crafts store</a>) the vinyl does not get scratched at all. These nibs flex very easily and do not have a needle like point ( more like a small round point) These nibs do give you very fine or thick lines depending on your pressure points. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY2FYQjfYwpwWGwtkk1-fnOSCdF_pm5g-N0ZfWFXVyyyDKZ3aOYpfoSe7QX5bim5dV5luyrmheZRMONppv66iPk_Xk-Z-m5mJ01NKXeMLjJbnJpXOG-c7hlMibPf9dGOfCKlS0o2Zpls5d/s1600/P1060413.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgY2FYQjfYwpwWGwtkk1-fnOSCdF_pm5g-N0ZfWFXVyyyDKZ3aOYpfoSe7QX5bim5dV5luyrmheZRMONppv66iPk_Xk-Z-m5mJ01NKXeMLjJbnJpXOG-c7hlMibPf9dGOfCKlS0o2Zpls5d/s320/P1060413.JPG" width="225" /></a></div>
The second important information is that I will be using the Rebornfx air dry paints and diluting them down easily to the right consistency for the nibs to hold with out the paints becoming runny. I also found the Rebornfx paints to have good color strength even after thinning. <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/search/rebornfx/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/results,16-75" target="_blank">The Rebornfx air paint</a> premixed line now has a few new hair colors you can choose from....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I will be using the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/reborn-fx-air-dark-ash-brown-detail" target="_blank">ReBornFX Dark Ash Brown</a> and the ReBornFX Ash Brown colors in my demo.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The vinyl doll head I will be using has been painted with Heat set paints so the first thing I will do is apply the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums/reborn-fx-air-primer-1-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx air dry primer</a> on the head where I am going to paint on and then wait for it to completely dry for a few hours. The Primer is important to use as it give a bit of tooth to your surface so the paint doesn't resist or puddle up, allowing for nice smooth continuous hair lines. This technique can also be done on air dry painted reborns before a water base varnish is applied. </div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next Step: Plan out your hair pattern. Here I have drawn on a few lines with chalk as a guidance on where I want to apply the paint for hair sections or tresses. White chalk comes off very easily and will not discolor your paint or vinyl.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqJwJLs_xNt_GczQr9TtpQeLN7P5jXOmTcLLBFC3fkxmxrff9y2W94vQwuuzzEIz4EKBtbfzoRLa1C5oENJA4vIACMWAOGocmhUgJ8cf6ukATxfehVXF0J1jKTH9zcOBdzZHyLDDQNm6vx/s1600/P1060398.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqJwJLs_xNt_GczQr9TtpQeLN7P5jXOmTcLLBFC3fkxmxrff9y2W94vQwuuzzEIz4EKBtbfzoRLa1C5oENJA4vIACMWAOGocmhUgJ8cf6ukATxfehVXF0J1jKTH9zcOBdzZHyLDDQNm6vx/s200/P1060398.JPG" width="171" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhckGeKQUnKn9WJDlXHWcfEbZSHEXvHVt4dCheWmiCdIb6OE5GfcJLPDa2MMRXDUrwnuQhd0Jk4n1vQi2sCJx-cdxmy9DmF-P_d9oiwHC2v065Hg6b_zWHZ5Iur6Zlj37EkLwPO-79QxK8v/s1600/P1060396.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhckGeKQUnKn9WJDlXHWcfEbZSHEXvHVt4dCheWmiCdIb6OE5GfcJLPDa2MMRXDUrwnuQhd0Jk4n1vQi2sCJx-cdxmy9DmF-P_d9oiwHC2v065Hg6b_zWHZ5Iur6Zlj37EkLwPO-79QxK8v/s200/P1060396.JPG" width="173" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With thinned Rebornfx Ash Brown loaded onto the calligraphy pen I applied the hair tresses within my pattern guide lines . I like to work on the top head section first to get a good hair pattern going. If you push down on the pen to much the nib will open and release to much paint, so light pressure is all that is needed. I felt I had more control with using this pen vs a brush. It was also easy to hold and maneuver around. I also got to paint more hair lines with out stopping to load up with paint vs with a fine brush. So I felt is was a bit faster for painting as well. </div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next step I did was to take a small brush and load it up with a thin wash of the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/reborn-fx-air-light-ash-brown-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx Light Ash Brown</a> and applied it with in the hair tresses sections. This softened the hair lines and made it look nicely blended into the scalp as well as defined the hair tresses more. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzjc7C-kL_XUVTcdKyFn1JAveylGS7mzGIaD7NAHEMBeBbOy4gK1I3aKfSYnhkDxFLNewZoJI8hr1HmddhK_cWaouNMT6doqxJvHDnFqUe4djcUsHTybshA-YTl75S-wSAGJngY0PsXiT1/s1600/P1060406.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="222" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzjc7C-kL_XUVTcdKyFn1JAveylGS7mzGIaD7NAHEMBeBbOy4gK1I3aKfSYnhkDxFLNewZoJI8hr1HmddhK_cWaouNMT6doqxJvHDnFqUe4djcUsHTybshA-YTl75S-wSAGJngY0PsXiT1/s320/P1060406.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then loaded the calligraphy pen with thinned <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/reborn-fx-air-dark-ash-brown-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx Dark Ash Brown</a> and applied it at the top of the tresses to create shadow and density. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ5WA_ieyhjFcbmOn_riZ6QUwLkmfBcufxG02g4kfYRzL65icgztXzCnm98j6GV0bom4bwrQuYpDy8fcXtbF2ZRmYlVPwsPb1h6XOMSIENiU9ztLrXLOeDsg120jufJlk9ibOdX6OPk21j/s1600/P1060415.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ5WA_ieyhjFcbmOn_riZ6QUwLkmfBcufxG02g4kfYRzL65icgztXzCnm98j6GV0bom4bwrQuYpDy8fcXtbF2ZRmYlVPwsPb1h6XOMSIENiU9ztLrXLOeDsg120jufJlk9ibOdX6OPk21j/s320/P1060415.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
You will notice I am starting to connect my top hair section to the sides now. I also changed to a smaller pen nib to give me some very fine lines on the sides as shown below. I also added a bit of light flesh paint hair lines on the sideburns. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibmC93QzSDo-OhDgKvCJC6EmyCRMxLYntkWVZcezL4bqZMge1g4E5z_w1utSrONPe3zjlZEqsrPrESJ2oocwGn_We-w0FqH4szWoBJxdPHZtoYa59qUQmjBmL4qr2gltnUoGy_lwpAjzHF/s1600/P1060414.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibmC93QzSDo-OhDgKvCJC6EmyCRMxLYntkWVZcezL4bqZMge1g4E5z_w1utSrONPe3zjlZEqsrPrESJ2oocwGn_We-w0FqH4szWoBJxdPHZtoYa59qUQmjBmL4qr2gltnUoGy_lwpAjzHF/s320/P1060414.JPG" width="238" /></a></div>
This is how far I have gotten for now. I am liking the density and separation of the tresses so far. This is enough detail for now on the top of the head , so I will now go on to painting in the rest of the hair on the head. Once all the hair is placed in, then I will reassess where I want to add more details, highlights or shadows and then apply.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib7Fskaos0RkhQ1l4WvdxCSRkq4FgCxcZWGdfI8U_plK4FF5M3qx6CBIdl28NqAPyQne3ANBc_3Bl8PSU47y9ugaD9DJnJpNaTp8l28hW6KJcaoRMYz2e5IcmxFsaNv3fbfDg-jc7NqrF0/s1600/P1060418.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib7Fskaos0RkhQ1l4WvdxCSRkq4FgCxcZWGdfI8U_plK4FF5M3qx6CBIdl28NqAPyQne3ANBc_3Bl8PSU47y9ugaD9DJnJpNaTp8l28hW6KJcaoRMYz2e5IcmxFsaNv3fbfDg-jc7NqrF0/s320/P1060418.JPG" width="241" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After I am finished I can choose to seal and varnish with <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums" target="_blank">Air Dry Rebornfx mediums</a> or with a heat set medium such as Genesis Satin Medium. Rebornfx paints will withstand the heating process required for heat set paints with out changing color.</div>

We just added a new color called Harvest Cream today and will soon be put on the website <a href="https://macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/results,46-105" target="_blank">https://macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints/results,46-105</a><br />
for purchase. A color swatch is posted in the new products tab on this blog. The color is a very creamy light yellow with just a touch of green reflection. It is good to use when you want to add a soft yellow hue to blend into your skin tones. As a mottle color it helps to break up the reds and when used as a wash it can soften blushed areas. It also is great as a high light color in blonde painted hair.<br />
I am definitely going to give this new color a try and will post my pictures when completed. <br />
ReBornFX air paints are going strong and will still be adding more new colors to their line!

There are many different types of vinyl's that come from various reborn doll kit factories around the world. I have found some doll kits to be very "clean" and easy to prepare and some are a bit dirty and need more attention to cleaning off residues. With my experience from helping inspect ( at work ) a ton of vinyl doll parts coming in from a wide variety of doll factories, I can tell you I have not come across a factory that has a total "clean vinyl " record. There are times when you may have a good run of really clean looking doll vinyl parts from a factory that impresses you and then the next run from that factory that impression can change. Taking this information into account, I now thoroughly clean my vinyl pieces on every kit before I paint them regardless of which factory produced them. After many hours of painting I do not want to chance finding out the paint won't stick to an area due to an oily residue that I did not see and take the time to clean off before hand. It really doesn't take that long to do a thorough cleaning and I feel it is small task well worth the effort in the end.<br />
So here is my cleaning procedure and a recipe for my cleaning solution that has worked for me for many years. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;">The supplies you will need are; </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;">1 soft bristled tooth brush</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;">1 tsp of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate U.S.P.)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;">3 Tbls of Dawn dish detergent</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;">1 small container</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;">Warm water</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: blue;">Soft towel</span> </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0z-KR9Q70jGfGzfxKLcLHsm0gx8T1hD44mrnw1vIdo21ALYvpImUk74tbWaA5U0Z_3-ZtrPk0lkfkI1fjRct_BwnK0z2vPkYrXuxWdlmhMZppy0PBa0dw-fs0-tGArwDQgpJ4CnGskLbo/s1600/cleaningA.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0z-KR9Q70jGfGzfxKLcLHsm0gx8T1hD44mrnw1vIdo21ALYvpImUk74tbWaA5U0Z_3-ZtrPk0lkfkI1fjRct_BwnK0z2vPkYrXuxWdlmhMZppy0PBa0dw-fs0-tGArwDQgpJ4CnGskLbo/s320/cleaningA.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I mix the baking soda and dish detergent into the small container to make a soft paste.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Dawn dish detergent has a great grease cutting ingredient that works well on the vinyl. You may try other brands of dish detergent, but make sure it is not loaded with hand softening oils. I added in the baking soda to get more of a soft abrasion to help loosen any stuck on dirt or oils. It also helps reduce any odor from the vinyl. The baking soda did not scratch or leave marks in the vinyl.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbxivyay5Ul4_RdPq3dheCObdXH42tICeAzMTXk2v_fhtq8YtBjDhN2DJNXH83DbCFkOiqFZCAwojcRRSpJcH4Okz_e59_RpLyce-2FoJXNSyMNGMHoz-TqTxd98tJ-nRGAL53zAqGGRTA/s1600/cleaningB.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbxivyay5Ul4_RdPq3dheCObdXH42tICeAzMTXk2v_fhtq8YtBjDhN2DJNXH83DbCFkOiqFZCAwojcRRSpJcH4Okz_e59_RpLyce-2FoJXNSyMNGMHoz-TqTxd98tJ-nRGAL53zAqGGRTA/s320/cleaningB.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I then apply this cleaning paste onto the vinyl doll parts and then lightly scrubbed it all over.<br />
Ensure you scrub in-between the toes, fingers and other creases or crevices.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi92cNIKTJiVnQMtz_c515YtVHzOFoeDn7jOeEXOm_wX9ZYNkXMOQXEBXT9yd8sv_LAj4V0mbK9f-lmPFmLD-9rrs7pzHb4Lu_mYA53bNqVlil00VLcMlpLL4ocYRGDkavmN08QQ9BGkd0s/s1600/cleaningC.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi92cNIKTJiVnQMtz_c515YtVHzOFoeDn7jOeEXOm_wX9ZYNkXMOQXEBXT9yd8sv_LAj4V0mbK9f-lmPFmLD-9rrs7pzHb4Lu_mYA53bNqVlil00VLcMlpLL4ocYRGDkavmN08QQ9BGkd0s/s320/cleaningC.jpg" width="224" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Rinse off the paste thoroughly with warm water. Some times a second rinse is necessary to get all the soap residue off the vinyl. Very warm water helps remove the residue better than cold water. The warm water also helps to open up the vinyl "pores" aiding in releasing trapped oils. As to how warm the water is = it is as warm as your hands can comfortably take. Do not scald yourself with water that is to hot to handle!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ_w-vL37Wdgk9zSix7Ix6MrXlciDY1JjaSLfoAUBHDy8o6CK4V5u3c4pSbLc012LPQX5Yrir-LWn9zcu78fahZM0lwfY3AkgLj-I3kTMO_4MLW3dg8XnDj5lWbb54dtHEWo1V_qJYlVam/s1600/cleaningD.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="207" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ_w-vL37Wdgk9zSix7Ix6MrXlciDY1JjaSLfoAUBHDy8o6CK4V5u3c4pSbLc012LPQX5Yrir-LWn9zcu78fahZM0lwfY3AkgLj-I3kTMO_4MLW3dg8XnDj5lWbb54dtHEWo1V_qJYlVam/s320/cleaningD.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Dry off the vinyl parts with a soft absorbent towel. I do not use paper towels as I found that they often leave lint or "fuzzies" behind after use. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I now put my vinyl doll parts onto a rack to dry for a few hours. This ensures any missed wet areas have a chance to air dry. Some times if I am in a hurry to paint right away, I will use a hair dryer on low or cool heat setting to quicken this secondary air drying procedure. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I should also mention Do Not get the inside of the vinyl parts wet as it is very hard to get the insides completely dry. If the inside ends up being moist for a long period of time, it can cause mold growth. Something you really do not want to take a chance on happening so try your best not to get water inside the vinyl doll parts. One tip to use if you want to help keep the water from getting into the parts; Cover the holes by placing a piece of plastic over the flange and secure with an elastic. This will help make it water resistant from drips. It will not work if the area is submerged under water. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My home was host to a baby shower for my daughter who is expecting in May. This will be my first Grand child. We made a diaper cake for the table center piece and used my painted reborn Marlee (sculpt by M.Winters) as the cake topper. It was a great conversational item and my daughter adored it. <br />

Found out it worked out well! Usually I would fill any holes with the heat set vinyl putty medium but I didn't want to heat my vinyl up. That is why I decided to try out the 3D medium for this. I sticks onto the vinyl permanently and is very flexible once air dried. Here are a few snap shots of my experiment. <br />

Left to air dry over night then painted a few skin tones on top. After paint was dry, I bent the neck area and flexed it a few times. All held together with no cracking. </div>

Since the 3D medium worked to well with adhesion and filling in a hole, I decided to apply a thin layer of the <a href="https://macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums/3d-air-dry-medium-detail" target="_blank">ReBornFX 3D medium</a> onto this thin layer of vinyl on the ear lobe. This will reinforce this thin vinyl area to strengthen and prevent any punctures.</div>

Doll and Teddy Bear Show. It was a great show with good attendance. Here are a few of the painted reborn dolls that were up for sale in the booth I was helping in.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few times when the booth wasn't busy I got to work on my Gabriela Toddler Doll nails. That was one of the high lights and advantages of working with the<a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints" target="_blank"> Rebornfx Air dry paints</a>. It is very portable and you can use it almost anywhere with out depending on having a heating oven or heat gun as you do with the Genesis Heat Set paint. I enjoyed this opportunity to paint Gabriela's nails and found it very convenient to use. </div>

I was pleasantly pleased with a customer's (Ruth from Blessed Baby Creations) results from using the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums/3d-air-dry-medium-detail" target="_blank">Rebornfx air dry 3D medium</a> for enhancing her dolls nail tips. The color I used was a mix of Rebornfx Flesh 07 and Rebornfx Caramel Cream. About 20 % was the Flesh 07 in the mixture. I then added in 50% Rebornfx Emulsion medium and 25% Diluent as I wanted this layer to be very transparent. This was applied with a torn cosmetic sponge, pouncing lightly. You should still see all your blushing and creases through this. If not then it is to strong and you need to dilute the paint mix more with Emulsion or Diluent. Do not apply this onto the bottoms of the feet, palms, lips or nails. the next step was to paint on the eyebrows. This seemed easier for me to do on a large head and getting them to match the first attempt was exciting. The colors I used for the eyebrows were Rebornfx Burnt Umber and Rebornfx Light Ash Brown to match the hair wig. The brow hairs were applied with a very fine liner. Once dry I then added on a layer of Matte Fluid to reduce any shine then I applied the Sealer to all areas. The only thing I will be working on to finish her is the nails and assembling. For now I tried on the wig I have for her. Here is the result of my painting of the head and torso so far.<br />

The first was a blue shade tone added to a few areas. Keeping this very light and well blended as not a lot of this color is to show through the skin. It just shades the area where the Toddlers skin may be still thin. If the Toddler had a darker skin tone, I would probably not add in this color. <br />
I used the Rebornfx blue wash and a small damp mop brush. I dotted these areas and then blended them into the skin; temple, around nose, a bit in ear, around ankles, bottom of feet, palms and around collar bone. I then added on some blushing with Rebornfx Pyrole Red 3 with a touch of Flesh 07 mixed in and about 20% water , diluent and open time. I added in the open time to give me a bit more time to blend this color in on larger areas. You can see the shaded and blushed areas in the pictures below;<br />

Next I added a thin layer of the blush color onto the lips. Let that layer dry then added in a bit more shading with a mixture of the blush and blue wash to equal a dark red/purple color. Notice the shaded areas in the next pictures using the blush and blush/blue mixtures. <br />

Keeping this in mind I will only do one very transparent mottle color just to give some pink undertone and skin dimension. The color I chose was Rebornfx Magenta 06. I added in 50% diluent, 20% distilled water and 30% paint emulsion to get a very transparent paint color. This is a nice purple pink color that worked well with the warm wash tone on my doll so far. I also used a damp small hole plucked sponge to give the mottle effect I wanted. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFwET-LcA4iHFmsITG0FRkpGW9mLuk2xfTi3pD9_8Oun6KXArjzRyJvJYyrx8rKYecTtRYvkWZ5YTQ5aXuGj9aovN46RXBlK6waL_vuPqqqeZ4VD3vzY6JLkRtaTP5aFuevjThM8ARBrbL/s1600/mottle+sponge.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFwET-LcA4iHFmsITG0FRkpGW9mLuk2xfTi3pD9_8Oun6KXArjzRyJvJYyrx8rKYecTtRYvkWZ5YTQ5aXuGj9aovN46RXBlK6waL_vuPqqqeZ4VD3vzY6JLkRtaTP5aFuevjThM8ARBrbL/s320/mottle+sponge.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I lightly and sparingly pounced this onto all the doll parts. I blended this color in on the face, palms, and on finger nails. I wanted the magenta color to enhance those areas but not in a mottled form. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have tried to photograph the skin to show how subtle the mottling/ paint is. </div>

The next step I applied my first crease color. This color is not the main crease color but more like a crease shading color to compliment the main crease color applied later on. This first crease color is subtle but does make a difference. I used my Rebornfx Flesh 04 paint and added in about 20% of the Magenta 06 that I had used previously. </div>

For applying I used a combination of brushes ; filbert, damp mini mop and liner (depending on the size of the crease being painted). To the paint color I added in 50% Diluent and a few drops of Open Time to allow more time to blend. Apply crease paint mixture to all crease areas, blending with the damp mop as you go. Don't forget to do around the fingernail edges, nostrils, and middle lip line.<br />

You can see the faults in the pictures below . These had to be fixed before I could begin to paint skin layers on my vinyl doll with the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints" target="_blank">Rebornfx air dry paints</a>.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One of the vinyl legs was a little pinker than the other leg.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBS7k4aruuwj5-9co4Ijf999libc_6bgCeZtgerB5QOFKKyrSJ5qiLMqeB4ttpq2CNQvfmfJCHS7xG__rC705m7Zwx-gX-Qsy-c1y1Pim5FP3N3T99AdIXkKcLlVjxqlU5VDIy5GL_50nc/s1600/Finger+tip+dot+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBS7k4aruuwj5-9co4Ijf999libc_6bgCeZtgerB5QOFKKyrSJ5qiLMqeB4ttpq2CNQvfmfJCHS7xG__rC705m7Zwx-gX-Qsy-c1y1Pim5FP3N3T99AdIXkKcLlVjxqlU5VDIy5GL_50nc/s320/Finger+tip+dot+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The finger had a very black spot embedded in the vinyl which I could not remove.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<h3 class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is how they got fixed:</h3>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made a very thin neutralizing wash with the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints" target="_blank">Rebornfx paints</a> <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints" target="_blank">Burnt Sienna , Sap Green</a> ,<a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums" target="_blank">Diluent</a> and water. Applied this wash with a dense cosmetic sponge, pouncing lightly so no line marks are left. The pinker leg got 2 layers of the wash to bring it to the same tone as the other leg. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil-1iPd_IF5snaIM3D428P_-f6QwiinHNTOn8IxGS2aOSaqpR60jyvUQia5XYxD6qFXQ1AI_GBZ7hw6mDWB0vCehDE90aH_i62wVjzZY7ErObD7EF1IUBYFjvKEvfpIdEJIsww2CdINiVE/s1600/Leg+color2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="288" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil-1iPd_IF5snaIM3D428P_-f6QwiinHNTOn8IxGS2aOSaqpR60jyvUQia5XYxD6qFXQ1AI_GBZ7hw6mDWB0vCehDE90aH_i62wVjzZY7ErObD7EF1IUBYFjvKEvfpIdEJIsww2CdINiVE/s320/Leg+color2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next picture shows you how the wash changed the base color by putting the unpainted arm beside the legs. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEcF5Thl_oXaiUG3Zb5NjWaA3fCleWwBWJlv0vLjR16rxI01kFx8MeLvbg2PTfa7nMUUKWCJQHoqOO5T2is6rL55hDBukbNhVJTcU02m-4kX6lEVQheKMUm9dKraCi4nh30kzjPyUngde0/s1600/leg+Arm+color.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEcF5Thl_oXaiUG3Zb5NjWaA3fCleWwBWJlv0vLjR16rxI01kFx8MeLvbg2PTfa7nMUUKWCJQHoqOO5T2is6rL55hDBukbNhVJTcU02m-4kX6lEVQheKMUm9dKraCi4nh30kzjPyUngde0/s320/leg+Arm+color.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After I fix the black spot on the finger I will proceed with applying this same <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints" target="_blank">Rebornfx paint</a> mixture as a thin wash over the arms, torso and head. This mixture gives me a nice warm glow that will help add depth to the skin colors I use in the next steps.</div>
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now for fixing up the black spot on the finger. This takes a bit of patience and thin layers of paint. </div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First I chose an off white paint (opposite to the color black) and put a dot of this on top of the black spot. I then put some <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums" target="_blank">Rebornfx Open Time</a> into my damp brush and with a very light touch , blended the outside lines of the white paint dot. The white should look likes it is fading into the pink vinyl with no sharp lines or ridges. See pictures below. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjezfW0EnNCGbPo-fCR_ftGBV-6EB6rlw1FoMyvqOaMLPJxcdXbBAfeVs93P0RIFWmHLtD5Cqf80RqKMcsfqxVxjnRBDngI-D8d6yV4h4tvWyzKVKYm_BSPCk5RHYXLUkTdXPA4I8QSZrIV/s1600/finger+tip+b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="293" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjezfW0EnNCGbPo-fCR_ftGBV-6EB6rlw1FoMyvqOaMLPJxcdXbBAfeVs93P0RIFWmHLtD5Cqf80RqKMcsfqxVxjnRBDngI-D8d6yV4h4tvWyzKVKYm_BSPCk5RHYXLUkTdXPA4I8QSZrIV/s320/finger+tip+b.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihBWfjV-two8A3r3angKJt7LWdZXiOHyqTvwvPh5H0SnF3kRwL0XxFSop81UVKlCaKX3WkwP5TOnri30mEWAt5rhK45RZy1mpUGW6ll-zlKANCa-JXMPEtHGwdBh_l5aSJWLornYoIT5sx/s1600/finger+tip+blend1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="295" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihBWfjV-two8A3r3angKJt7LWdZXiOHyqTvwvPh5H0SnF3kRwL0XxFSop81UVKlCaKX3WkwP5TOnri30mEWAt5rhK45RZy1mpUGW6ll-zlKANCa-JXMPEtHGwdBh_l5aSJWLornYoIT5sx/s320/finger+tip+blend1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Once the paint was dry, I applied a skin tone mixture similar to the vinyl color. In this case the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-paints" target="_blank">Rebornfx air dry paint</a> mixture contained Baby Flesh with a touch of Burnt Sienna and Diluent. Again this is applied on with a damp brush and<a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums" target="_blank"> Rebornfx Open Time medium</a>, blending and blending the edges outwards.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjuo12pkugzOLlDKyx6NlBl5CJEn7GZ3wQVZqsZ89RNzdKKR1uTQDtDN81SiMTKEEgb-D2SIanwf9e_oMLuxYgidfQWB6AyXEFE2LGNQ-GAb6ClCJHZdZECBxsKCH71-Q5rHs2YsEX-Nxb/s1600/finger+tip+blend2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjuo12pkugzOLlDKyx6NlBl5CJEn7GZ3wQVZqsZ89RNzdKKR1uTQDtDN81SiMTKEEgb-D2SIanwf9e_oMLuxYgidfQWB6AyXEFE2LGNQ-GAb6ClCJHZdZECBxsKCH71-Q5rHs2YsEX-Nxb/s320/finger+tip+blend2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
As you can see there is a slight difference but that will disappear as I apply the previous neutralizing wash and other layers of skin colors. This is a lot better than seeing a black spot on the finger! If I did not do this process the black dot would have been seen through the proceeding skin layers of paint. For me it is a lot easier to cover/correct a light spot verses a dark spot on vinyl.<br />

But I had a wonderful visit with family members and a bit of recoop time. So needless to say the large doll painting project is on hold until my next day off work. In the mean time there are a few things I did update on this blog site = I finally got the Rebornfx 3D air dry Medium information sheet wrote up. That is the stuff I used on the hair painting post. The information and product is now on <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums">https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/online-store/rebornfx/rebornfx-air-dry-mediums</a> for purchase. The 3D medium comes in a one once jar and does go a long way, so use small amounts when starting off. I do recommend practicing a bit with it before adding it onto your finished project. It is permanent once dried!<br />
I also added in a new baby picture in the photo gallery tab. This one I had finished up using the Rebornfx air dry paint tutorial Lil Dumplings had done up. The baby still needs some hair and a better stuffed body, but couldn't wait to show him off for now.<br />
We got in a new shipment of paint in this week. These Rebornfx air dry paints will be more matte than our original Rebornfx air dry paints. No difference in quality. The only difference will be in the dry look. The original paints will need matting fluid applied to get rid of unwanted sheen and the new paints will have less sheen requiring no or little matting fluid. Every thing else is the same and all the Rebornfx paints/mediums are interchangeable and compatible. Shelley Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01267174705325626284noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7834475259490216625.post-66028010675091618692017-03-15T22:37:00.000-04:002017-03-15T22:37:22.945-04:00First steps before painting with ReBornFX Air Paints.Started in on preparing my large vinyl doll today. Found an old dowel and wood stand that will hold the large pieces for drying (I hope) without tipping over. The doll is Gabriella by Reva Schick and she is actually a 42 inch doll and not the 38inches I had previously thought. You can see the size comparison with my own hand in the picture below. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3ZhUU5XORp5HRJqgeGnkhljvO3rTZ8aBUMy0EDS_rIA0fQxnqIUkhTM4wdd9CN3wbJZ3YzI15vhlsbcJLgoC20b6u-MD7sAki0nJqL_K-aNKCAosgg7wA0fSfQad_JZ1lO9k5gki-693c/s1600/handSize.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3ZhUU5XORp5HRJqgeGnkhljvO3rTZ8aBUMy0EDS_rIA0fQxnqIUkhTM4wdd9CN3wbJZ3YzI15vhlsbcJLgoC20b6u-MD7sAki0nJqL_K-aNKCAosgg7wA0fSfQad_JZ1lO9k5gki-693c/s320/handSize.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Will be interesting to see how much time and paint this will take. I applied one layer of the RebornFx Primer with a damp, dense cosmetic sponge onto all the doll pieces. I then put the pieces onto the drying rack as they were completed. After about 30 min I then applied a second layer of primer.. That took up about 1/3 or the one oz. bottle of Rebornfx Primer for this 42 inch 5 piece vinyl doll. A second coat of primer is not necessary for a regular reborn doll but this doll is going to be put into a very sunny window when finished. I felt it needed the best protection against those elements. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I will now let the pieces dry overnight to ensure they are fully cured before starting in on painting. As you can see in my picture below, the drying rack/doll is now taking up all my work area, so I will have to find another small table to put them on before I begin to paint on her this weekend. </div>

I was given a 38 inch vinyl doll to reborn for the <a href="https://www.macphersoncrafts.com/en/" target="_blank">MacPherson Crafts Store</a> window. I have been reborning dolls for many years but nothing bigger than 23 inches. This size restriction was mostly because I was painting with heat set paints and the vinyl parts would not fit into my nu-wave oven to set them. Now with air dry paints, I can paint any size of vinyl doll with no limits! I originally wasn't planning on such a large 38" doll to start with but we came into a situation where a lady walked into the store a few days ago and wanted to buy the large display doll we had used in our windows for years. Yes, the doll was sold to that lady who fell in love with her. Now we truly miss that doll in the window and realized we needed to replace her - after all we had all these child size # 6 cloths left over from the sold doll.<br />
Today I finished washing up the large vinyl limbs, torso and head with warm soapy water then rinsed and dried them. Now I'm just pondering on what to use for a drying rack. I believe the rack I have is way to small and will more than likely tip over with the weight of the limb(s). Will have to think about what other type of rack I can substitute. On the other hand (pun) perhaps I don't need a drying rack as the paint might be dry by the time I get to the end of that long arm any ways! Definitely will be painting this one in sections. <br />

It is called the Rebornfx 2 n 1 Final Coat. <br />
We already had a sealer product and a varnish product for finishing the reborn dolls, but we had a request for a final coat that would not come off with routine cleaning done in institutions. Well we listened to our customers and brought in this product for those requesting this feature. The Rebornfx 2n1 Final Coat is a liquid air dry plastic coat made to adhere and flex with vinyls and plastics. It is a permanent coat once dried. Basic cleaning products and disinfectants will not remove or effect it. It is great to apply on reborns used for playdolls, in hospital programs or institutions where cleaning and disinfecting is a routine. I have been testing this product out for a while and love it's matte finish! It can be used on air dry acrylics and on top of heat set paints. Enjoy!Shelley Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01267174705325626284noreply@blogger.com0
